Radiator fluid is getting into the engine oil. Engine runs good and strong. Does anyone know the easier things to look at that may be causing the problem? Thanks, Wade

The possible reasons are easy. To find which one it is, that is not easy. Simplest is a head gasket. It is also the least likely but it is possible for water to get in the oil this way but you should see bubbles in the radiator and possible over heating. Probably not too likely since you don't mention bubbles. The second is a cracked head or block - hard to detect without magnafluxing or pressurizing. I think this tractor has wet sleeves which is the last possible leak area. If it has wet sleeves, the o-rings that seal the sleeves to the block at the bottom of the sleeve do deteriorate and leak. This is the most likely failure. All of the failure areas take a significant amount of time and effort to fix. Head gasket and o-rings are cheap. Heads and blocks are not.

I've seen the o-ring failure the most often but I have had a cracked head over the years.

Good answers, Denny, but I would also check the engine oil cooler. They have been known to leak, usually oil into the water, but under certain circumstances it can go the other way.

If the weep hole isn't plugged it should leak externally as a warning sign.

Leakage at the weep hole indicates the o-rings are leaking, says nothing about the condition of the heat exchanger itself. The tubes are silver soldered and can come loose causing the exact condition he is getting.

what everybody said is right. if you have good green antifreeze you can take the oil pan off and look up around where the sleves stick thru the block look for some green drops thats your bad hole. if one is bad the others are not mutch better.

If the motor doesn't have a water filter on it then I'm betting electrolis . I hope you had a water filter. I learned my lesson.

Tom, that was my thought too because in those days that was a new dilema in bigger tractors about that time and conditioners were becoming an option. I think from what I used to read about had to do with piston travel feet per minute.
