Trying to get my old B ready for winter and had water in the tranny. I need to know the type and capacity of oil for it. Last time I changed was about 20 yrs ago and it seems like it was #30 motor oil but want to be sure.

Thanks for the info. I filled it with hytran and it works better than in years. Now I've got to repack one of the cyliders.

8 quarts. some type of universal trans-hydraulic fluid is great. HYTRANS is one option. Look at the pail or bucket, the Allis spec was 821. Should say it is good for Deere or Case trans- hydraulic systems.. Engine oil is o.k., but will foam and has too many odd addatives for trans work.

The original manual called for 20 wt. oil I believe, however I was told to use the Hytrans oil from Walmart. Being modern it has superior lube characteristics and works well in the hydraulic system. It comes in five gallon pails and I just filled mine to the bottom of the fill port on the transmission.
Forgot to mention...I had the rear pto/side covers off and dug about 1" of crud out of there, then flushed several times with solvent. Amazing how much packed sediment was in there!

Today's Featured Article - Bad Vibes - by Curtis Von Fange. One of the strangest ways to communicate with our tractor is to ask it how it feels. "Ask it how it feels," you say? Yup, ask it how it feels. Now, as with the other articles in this series one has to be able to hear what 'ole blue' is trying to say in response. The nice thing about our old iron friends is that they are usually quite consistent in their response, rather unlike some people I know who might change what they say due to the weather or other mitigating circumstances. But since t ... [Read Article]
