The shop manual simply says "remove the generator". Well that isn"t enough for me, obviously in past days owners were assumed to have more knowledge than I now have to remove the generator. I am trying ultimately to take the slack in the steering wheel out of my Ross steering box. Thanks for any tips, suggestions, hints on removing the generator.

It is the starter that you have to remove to tighten the steering.. First remove the ground (positive ) connection to the battery. Next remove the battery cable from the starter. Then remove the starter linkage to the foot pedal or pull rod. Next loosten the big lock nut just ahead of the starter on the outside. Next remove the screwor bolt that the lock nut was on allthe way out. The starter should then just pull straight back.
