I looking for information that would point me to an Allis Chalmers historian. The information I"m looking for requires someone who has a very deep knowledge of the company. More specifically I"m looking for someone with knowledge of the Edward P Allis Mutual Aid Society. Can any one help me?

A book titled "An Industial Heritage, Allis Chalmers Corporation" Written by Walter F. Peterson and copyrighted in 1976,1977 & 1978 by the Milwaukee County Historical Society has a few pages about the Aid Society. These books were sold at the gift shop at the plant at West Allis in the late 70's. Hope this helps. Ed

The Milwaukee County Historical Society has a pretty good archive of Allis Chalmers stuff. They would be a good place to start. They Have a web site with contact information.

I wanted to thank you for your replies. You have been most helpful. Like stated in one reply information on the Mutual Aid Society isn't easy to find. I was researching this because a letter about my great grandfather said he was employed by the Mutaul Aid Society as this countries first company doctor and I was trying to validate the information.
Dandy Don I'll try to find Walt Buescher.

Would any of you know what the Unversity of Wisc. has in their archives. I get the impression that a lot of the historical records for Allis ended up there?

I have possesion of and have read and reread all things pertaining to Allis chalmers in my copies of C.H.Wendells Book"Allis-chalmers Tractors" History of Advance -Rumley=Monarch Crawlers=Allis-Chalmers Tractors & Implements also Randy Leffingwells"The American Farm Tractor" which beginning on page 63 gives a good accounting of the ascension of AC.And Johnn Carroll and Garry Stuart's"Tractors" but now where can be found any thing of Edward Allis's Mutual Aid Society. Much print is given to his involvment with AC and his numerous bankruptcies and subsequent progression of the company from one management team to the next. It is interesting that being "Streched" financiaily thin by Buisness near failures etc. that he would have been such a public and societical minded man. It would be interesting to hear the full story of his life as it would to hear a litany of our lives from some one in the future,don't you think?

Hey J.C. Where does Johnn Carroll fit in? That's my last name and my long lost uncles name that moved out west in the early 1900's and my dad lost track of when my grandpa and grandma died at an early age. CT

John Carroll was the Co-Author of the book mentioned. I like you and so many others share the John Carroll Name in one form or the other. Mine is the first and middle of my name. My Mother was infatuated with an Hollywood Actor in 1937 named John Carroll and my dad wanted his son to be named after his Grand Father who was named John so they compromised and now I am John Carroll_____ ____. Wasn't there a signer of the Declaration of Independance named "John Carroll of Carollton"?

Eddy, The person you should talk with is Walt Buescher. He writes articles for Antique Power Magazine and knows Allis Chamlers forward and backwards and everything in between. I don't know his address or phone number but Antique Power mag can probably put you in touch. Don

in the magazine "farm Collector" is usually an article on allis every month. You might get a copy and then get in contaqct with that person that writes it. I think the article is called antique peddler or plow peddler, somthing along that line
