I wonder if anyone on this board could give me advice on a D14? I have an 8N, and am familiar with Fords, but know nothing about AC tractors. I need a tractor for grading, bush hogging, and general work on a 15 acre property. A friend has a D14 he wants 2500 for, and says it has less than 50 hours on a complete engine overhaul. Any comments on the D14 would be appreciated.

I agree that the D-14 makes an excellent utility tractor. No offense, but it will outwork the 8n and then some. Just make sure that it doesn't jump out of any gears, especially going down hills--can be a very expensive fix. You will love the hand clutch (power director), especially for brushhogging. 2,500 would be a fair price for the condition you describe (excellent mechanical condition??), at least in my area (especially if it has power steering).

One thing, does it have a three pnt hitch conversion or the snap coupler? Snap coupler system works like a charm, but if you don't have any SC equipment, well...that can be a problem.

Get SeaFoam Deep Creep, spray it in each cylinder and leave it for two or three days. Bump the starter and see if it is moving. If not, work the flywheel back and forth with a bar. It has always worked for us. How much would you sell it for as it sets?

Actually if adjusted right the Power Director will creep when cold. Just use the brakes when cold. Never get off the tractor with the transmission in gear and the power director in neutral. Take the tranny out of gear. That price seem like a pretty good deal if the rest of the tractor is decent.

The D14 is a excellent tractor I have one and would compare it to a Ford 801 in ability. The biggest thing to watch is the power director likes to creep when they're cold unless they're adjusted right. Your friend's price seems fair if its just been rebuilt. I use mine for loader work and heavy tillage on a 200 acre farm, granted its not the big tractor but it still does alot of work and will easily handle a 6 foot brush hog. Just my 2 cents.
