radiator repair on a model B

The radiator is brass I believe and needs a repair, the metal side cover has come detached at the top of the radiator, that is the piece on the side the shutter attaches to, how should it be welded/solder back in place, the radiator does not leak but the metal side cover is loose.

i soldered mine myself with a porpane torch and solder. about 6 months ago... seems like it is attached on the roled side of the tank half way up away from the seams. i thought i could do it without getting anywhere near the tank seams.... took a small die grinder and cleaned the metal bright and shinny about 1/2 inch wide under the strap and the edge of the strap. clamped it down, and had it soldered in about 2 minutes. put a wet rag on to cool.

If you canget it good & clean JB Weld epoxy will work great. Kip

Best way to go is as Geo. says. It can be done but if you don't know what your doing you can have a real mess on your hands and a radiator thats good be bad because of getting it to hot in the right place at the wrong time BTDT and they look simple to fix but they can be big trouble with out the right tools

Rick, I didn't have to repair my B radiator but I've done solder repairs on several others. Without actually looking at mine I'd bet it's soldered to the tanks in some fashion. Since it's so close to the tank solder seams, the best course would be to take it to a regular radiator shop and have them tackle it. If you've never repaired one there's the chance of applying too much heat and loosening everything. Shouldn't be expensive for such a small repair.
