Would like to know where I might get repair parts for an AC model 284 rotary mower.
Need small pawls that are on the ratch shaft of the PTO.
Any help appreciated.

Are you talking about the over-running clutch pawls? Just a guess, but if they are about 1/2" in diameter, 2 to a set, then they are probably the same as the ones in 5'Allis bush hogs, and the All Crop pull type combines. Does this give you any ideas?

Dave,
These pawls are about 2+inches long and about 1/2in wide and are flat in make. They are in the over riding clutch, but this clutch is not detachable, it is built into the gear box housing.
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. This mower is a 14ft mower and the ratcht is built into the main gear box. The ratcht and the gear box are all in the same. It has one main gear box and to out rigger boxes. It was a good idea when built, but a pain in the a....to try and repair.

Try a Simplicity dealer. Allis and Simplicity were together for some time. Alot of the products were the same but sold under two different names and different colors.{Yellow and Red}. I can buy all the parts for my tractor snowblower {Allis} from Simpicity.

Other than going through AGCO, check the shaft closely for any ID- and try that company. Dealer locater is at www.agcocorp.com.
