I converted my old WD to 3pt and am wanting to purchase a Box Blade for it. I am looking at a 6ft. but I am afraid of it being to much blade for my WD. Anyone try this? I was interested in a 6ft because of the width of the tractor. Seems like a 5 ft looks too small.

Thanks for all your replys. I used ford lower arms for my three point conversion and they seem plenty close to the rear tires. I am going to add fluid to the 13.9-28 rear tires since I have no weight at all now. I think I will take the plunge and get the 6ft. It is a heavy made not a chinese knock off. Plus I am getting a heck of a deal on it. If the front gets too light would it hurt to make a weight bar for some hang on weights. I don't want to tear the ol' girl up.

Won't hurt a thing to put a little weight on the front other than it might make it steer a little stiffer. I doubt that you will run into a problem with it though.

It will depend on what you try to do with the blade, the weight of the blade and how the 3 point conversion is make. The farther back the blade sets the lighter the front of the tractor is going to get. If it is a light weight blade I doubt it will be any problem. If you get a heavy made blade and it sets too far back you are going to have the front wheels up in the air. You should be able to pull a 6 foot box blade ok, but if you try to cut too deep you can get too much of a load for the tractor. Personally I have no use for a box blade, I"ll take a regular blade that swings and tilts over a box blade any day. Just my preference.

You'll have plenty of power to pull it, but the front of the tractor might get a little light when you lift the blade. Just be careful when lifting and driving around with the blade in the air. It will work, but in my experience the WD hydraulics are not sensitive enough to suit me because you can't adjust the height of the lift and have it stay where you want it while blading. The hydraulics on my tractor tend to wander up and down.

You should be able to change the setting of your pump to hold position. Sounds like your's is in traction booster mode. Also may have leak by in the spools.

I use my WD with a 6ft 3-point box blade and it works pretty good. I don't have any extra weight on it yet, but that is in the near future. I find that when I hit a hard spot the tractor will spin a little and I think some extra weight will mostly cure that problem. In my opinion a 5ft blade would be too small. WD's are a pretty stout pulling tractor for their weight and size.

Shoot an 8N ford will pull a 5 footer all day long so a WD should play with a 5 footer and a 6 would be just about right for the WD
