i have read manuals on overhauling transission.
it&T shows a 4x4x14 wood block under rear housing cover to gain access to pinion shaft ring. can you remove pinion this way ? anyone done it or do you have to remove axles & diff
like everyone else says ?

That 4x4 is used along with a lack to push the axles out of the bull gears. Th bull gears have to be dropped down to remove th bull gear pinion from the differential. The differential then is removed and then the differential pinion, which is also the transmission mainshaft, can be removed.

you have to remove the axles and differential before you can get the main trans/pinion shaft out. also you will need to split the tractor in half so you can get to the snap ring on the end of the shaft and to take the gears on and off the shaft as it's being removed. actually you have to push the shaft out from the front of the trans...long story short...tear the thing all the way down to get in there.
