The 856 had a lot of problems one of them was a serious one dealing with the bull gear metal hardness shaving off metal parts plugging up the hyd pump screen causing the pump to starve and rendering all hydraulics useless. You may want to remove your sump screen and make sure that all the shavings are flushed out of the rearend. There was a silent recall on this issue. I know from personal experience of this issue I was operating a two year old 856 coming out of a field I had just finished chopping with a two row Gehl forage harvester and a 8ton forage box totally full and started down the highway dropped over a hill and the red light came on then I had no steering plus that kicked the torque into the low side which made it freewheel WOW! what a ride? I put my hat on backwards and rode it out estimated speed was over 30mph. I kicked the tranny out of gear because I didn"t want the pump to kick in and throw me over the hood. Better get er fixed.
