D17 Hydraulic System Failure

I recently drained and replaced the hydraulic fluid and filter on my 1963 Series III D17 � small amount of water followed by mostly milky fluid from both drain plugs. Much to my chagrin the hydraulic lift no longer works. No grinding noises, no anything � just dead silence when I actuate the lift/lower lever on the column. The replacement oil I used is Heavy Duty Universal Hydraulic & Transmission oil from Sams club. After letting the tractor sit overnight, I re-checked the levels and then filled to just above the �prolonged standing� fill marks. I opened up the two drain plugs and let a little fluid out just to ensure that it was in the hydraulic pump reservoir & power director areas. I also unscrewed the new filter slightly to ensure fluid was going thru. Still no hydraulic lift. New filter is a Wix 51515, old filter (that I replaced a few years back) was a Fram PH8A. This is a first time complete oil change since owning the tractor. I chased down a post from some time back where an owner had the same issue, but no reply posts were listed. Kinda stumped on this as I would not expect complete system failure from just replacing fluid/filter. Help!

Try to manually raise and lower the lift arms. That might prime the system though I haven"t ever had to do this.

sounds like an air block in the suction pipe. Anyway to put some air pressure to it while running , I had to do that on a ford.

BW - Blew compressed air into the filler (removed dipstick and rigged a plug). Did the trick! Thank you for the advice. God bless.

BW - Thanks for the reply. My neighbor mentioned that also. Would I hook up air at the filler plug? Think I could probably rig some adaptors to that fitting.
