Just got a "WC"(1939)two(2) questions.
#1 just aft of the main trans.is another shifter
lever,if I lift it up it disengages the tranny
& the tractor won't move,whats it for????
#2 I can't figure out how the side pully works.
this tractor equipped with a belly mower(works fine) Thanks for any help

The 2nd shifter would uncouple the differential and still provide power to the PTO and the Power lift. The power lift, on tractors so equiped, was for raising and lowering cultivators and a few other mounted implements.

Rear lever is so you can use the main shifter for different pulley speeds w/o tractor moving
STILL lock those brake handles!!!!!
Look just inside the frame rail behind the pulley,on to of the trans. housing, you will see a bolt and set screw.
Lossen the bolt and you can slide the pulley assy out to stop, or push in and tighen to run.
With a little practice you can feel the small notches that the bolt goes into to lock it

Grandads explained the purpose of the "traction release" and Joe explained how to engage & disengage the belt pulley. However, since the belt pulley driven gear meshes with a gear on the input shaft between the clutch and the transmission, transmission gear selection has no effect on pulley speed. I would suggest you always leave tractor in neutral when using belt pulley!!!

That other lever is for running the pto while the tractor is not moving. It's handy for mowing tall or stubborn grass, weeds, etc. If it starts to bog down, just engage that lever and the tractor will stop, but the pto keeps turning. The belt pulley should run off the pto... at least mine did.
