My real complaint with wd45 besides sitting off to the side, is the hand clutch it, seems to engage all at once and jerks you back in the seat pretty hard where on the ca it eases in just like the foot clutch. Is it out of adjustment, or is just the way they are? By the way I like the d14/d15 idea for the ca, might be beyond my fabrication skills though. Thanks Mike

Sounds like you have some sort of clutch problems for sure. I've never seen one that was like that.

I've had two WD's and now have a WD-45. I can't recall any of them being jerky as you describe. Since it is oil bath clutch, I can't suggest why you are experiencing this - unless all of the clutch lining is missing which is very unlikely. I'd pull off the battery and the cover plate and just look at everything to check condition.

I would never salvage a D-14 to make a more poserful CA. The transmission and power director of the D-14 are so much better.

I am Mike in Ohio's father. Both the WD-45 and the CA are mine but he keeps them both running and had 3 point hitches on both in addition to converting them to 12 volt. Don't encourage him too much or I may lose both of them. I agree with him about the hand clutch on the WD-45. It is so sensitive that it almost pulls you off the seat when you let it out. We mow about 5 acres on his place with a 6 foot finish mower and occasionally get into high grass. Pulling the hand clutch slows down the tractor but serges when you let it out. We will look inside to see if there is a problem there (or he will).

Sounds like it is out of adjustment. I use the hand clutch on my 5 or so wd, wd45's almost exclusively. ( can use it for shifting on the 45's, but the straight cut gears on the wd don't mesh as well!)
