i have 2 allis chalmers tractors that i need brakes for but i`m unable to locate the ser# to indentify the model. It says that the number should be on the top of the trans behind the shift lever--mine does not. where do i look now?

All depends on the model where the numbers are. If you have say a D-17 its on the left hand side just behind the engine but if its others then it could be at the back ot on top of the tranny etc. etc. A picture whould help a lot as to where to find the numbers

A WD will be very similar. The serial number is on the back of the left brake housing above the adjusting bolt and below the spring hole. Let us know what model you have and we will get you headed the right direction.

This is a styled WC in reply to william ingraham, 10-29-2007 12:12:42

The serial number is on the back of the differential in the center. The unstyled WC will have the serial number in the same place. If you have the steel rear (square axles) the serial number is on the back of the differential stamped in an arc above the cover.

A C and a CA will look similar and the serial number should be at the base of the shifter.

I assume you have a B, C or CA based on the fact that it is supposed to be on top of the transmission. I have a B and a C and the serial number (or what I assume to be the serial number) is right in front of the shift lever off to the right hand side if you are sitting in the seat. The manuals and the serial number information on this site both say it should be behind the shifter. Can any of the AC experts shed any light on this? I have been wondering about this for a while. Thanks.
