A while back I posted about the loose rear hubs on my B.It was mentioned that I could grind the back of the hubs a little at a time and I might be able to tighten them up that way. Before I do that is it possible to remove a couple of shims from behind the hubs to try and tighten them up that way or won't that do it.Just asking because I just took them off and noticed that there are shims behind the hubs.
Thanks in advance Dave

Denny, the shims are on the other end of the shaft and do adjust the bearings as you said. He was talking about the wheel hub on the spline on the outside end.... i think. There are no shims on that end, the hub pushes up aginst a sleeve that the oil seal rides on. to tighten up the hob you can sometimse grind the inner lip of the hub and let it slide further on the shaft before it hits the oil seal inner sleeve.

The book doesn"t show any shims on this spindle. Could be that one of the previous owners added the shims tighten the bearing. It sounds to me like your bearing are worn out. If you wish a little extra life, you need to ad more shims behind the inside race. Taking them out will make the spindle looser.

im not sure the B has shims behind the hub. when you pull the hub off, you should see a oil seal in a groove with a lip around it. the back of the hub has a lip also. the two lips overlap to form kind of a dirt seal outside the oil seal. clean it all up, dont put any shims on teh shaft, and put the hub back on push it up tight and snug the nut. if the hub slides on too far the two lips will touch and drag when you try to turn the tire (jacked up off teh ground). if it does drag, then you can grind the lip 1/8 inch so they do not contact. if the taper shaft is too far worn, that wont work... you can also put a liquid steel BELZONA on the splines and fill in to the hub if it is too far worn.
