I was reading a previous post on earlier B's not having a thermostat till the mid 40's. Can a t-stat be installed in a early tractor?

Or should I just go buy a set of shutters?

It will not even get over 120 degrees - even in the summer. It also smokes all the time unless you are trying to work it really hard. It does need a rebuildthird party imagebut that might be ina few years since I have like other tractor that need attention first.

you will also have to change the radiator to the newer style and use a pressurized cap. why do you think you need a thermostat.the running temp is not that important unless you are burning kerosene. Bob

Are you running kerosene? I have one with a thermostat, one without. They both run @ 140 degrees.

Yes. But you'll need a thermostat housing from a later B, C or CA. AC added a larger baseplate and then mounted an enlarged housing to contain the thermostat. The later housing will also have a thermometer or at least a threaded hole for one. You will need to add a hole in the cowl to view the thermometer or you could plug the thermometer hole and use your '38 cowling.

For shutters you will need a later radiator cowling or drill appropriate holes for the shutters to mount. Most B's that I've seen have long done away with the shutters. The thermostat should eliminate need for them anyway.

We have a '39 'B' and it also needs a thermostat.
We installed a new thermostat in a 2N Ford last week, and I have been wondering if this thermostat would work in the 'B'. The upper hose looks to be close to the same size.

the top radiator hose connects to a tube casting on the top, front of the motor head., wiht a couple 3/8 inch bolts. you remove that and add the thermostat housing, reconnect the hose, no problem.

I have a couple sets of shutters if you decide to buy shutters.
