I picked up a mower at an auction and have tried to use it. I have replaced the old teeth with new. I have also had to make a new pittman for it. I know it"s in register so that"s not the problem. I guess I have to replace the wear plates but have no idea where to get them. My problem is that the knifes just don"t lay flat to the guard teeth. I have a gap in most of them and that causes the mower to cut poorly. I was told to bend the teeth but I just don"t read that in any manual. Any one have any idea what I ought to do to fix this problem? If anyone knows where I can get the wear plates or have any idea how to fix this problem that would also be great. I want to use this unit this coming spring but with it working like this I would be better off cutting it by hand.

Ed you can get wear plates at any Farm and Fleet, Tractor Supply, Central Tractor store or like store. They are now made "one size fits all". While you are replacing the wear plates, take a look at the holddowns, it there is much wear in them think about replacing them too.

Thanks for the help and information. I haven't looked in the tractor supply yet but will. I live a little ways from a real Allis dealer who would know what I need. I tried the hammer and I guess I was afraid of braking them off. I did have to replace some of the points and I was able to get them from Central tractor. I did get it working enough to do about 15 acres of golden rod and the like. It was then that I saw the need for fixing it up to cut better. Not to bad a deal for the $5 I spent on it. Thanks guys for your help. I'll check on the hold downs. I did read that they should have some clearance like a post card thickness somewhere.

As JMS and Dick say also you can make sure the hold downs are tight. I have more then one manual that talks about bending the guards to fit as they should

Just find a pipe that fits over the guards, and use that to bend them enough to align- either up or down. Check with various dealers to find wear plates with the same bolt pattern, or get some bent out of similar material at a machine shop and drill the holes to match.

We have always fine adjusted ours so the section knives were tight on all the ledger plates in the guards with a 10 pound sledge and a railroad iron. If your field had many stones it easy to get guards bent. If one gets bent up it can hold the knives off the ledger plates on both sides and start to plug.

You can't bend the teeth, just the clip downward to hold the section blade closer to the ledger.

Check these part numbers at your Agco-Allis dealer, but add a 70 prefix to the following:

802506 wearing plate - goes under the clip for sickle to ride on
802505 high arch clip - goes next to driver
802502 clip - goes on remaining locations
