If you are wondering how they got 4 speeds in reverse for a "backwards" tractor, it is done like this, flip the differential over inside the rear axle so the ring gear is on the other side of the pinion. They are made so this can be done.

On the WD, WD45, it is simply a matter of disassembly and reassembly- like WD Tom says. On the WC, you need to grind out some of the casting to make room for the gears to be flipped over. Also, on the WC, you need to remove the rear axle from the frame to unbolt everything. On the WD,WD45- you pull each rear axle out, take off the rear diff cover to get to the gears, then unbolt, flip, and rebolt. No machine work. Same thing with some Ford tractors. Made mine in the late 70s, out of one of the two tractors I started farming with in '72. Gain fantastic traction, great for digging rock. I've dug out rock I could not lift- just doze them across the field to the fenceline, steering wheels in the air, steer with the brakes.
