I have a '47 WC and trying to get it running. I have a destroyed wiring harness for the most part but have a general idea how it all fits together. Main question: two wires off the generator, one goes to the amp meter to show power output...the other wire goes ??? It is broken right as it exits the wiring harness next to the other and I can't see where it used to go.

Next question: How much psi should I be getting from each piston. When I tested it I got a range from 28-35psi. Is that standard for a 5.5:1 compression ratio??

The other wire either went to a charging cut out relay, or to a regulator. Other guys that post here have diagrams to show you how to re-wire the tractor (I keep losing the web link)

If you were hand cranking the engine slowly to get the compression readings, they may not be accurate... Your compression should be in the 90psi range. They'll still run as low as 60psi, but, not real well. If you're hand cranking, pull all of the plugs and check one cylinder at a time, crank as fast as you can.

I love WC's...they are a great alternative to the Farmall H...have fun!

I actually have a starter on this model but with only 6 volts it cranks pretty slow. I am guessing that due to the slower cranking power I get considerable "leak down" waiting for the next compression stroke to build up again. Is there any chance that this was converted to a 12 volt system and I am just using the wrong type of battery?? I was also checking with only one plug pulled at a time??
