engine block ID and questions

hey everyone, been away for a while but have a couple questions i havnt been able to answer on my own. First, i have an inlaw restoring, according to serial # a WD45. I noticed that the block has a plate on the right hand side. As far as I know, only 201 CU engines (wc, WD) had side plate. There were no G226 (wd45) blocks cast that had the plate Correct? The customers wants a CORRECT original restoration, it may have wd45 internals but isnt the "right" block, correct? The tractor is not near me so i cant check block casting but i would assume its a 201 block.

also, can someone tell me or direct me to specs for an Allis 230 Gas motor from "gleaner AII" combine. HP, rated rpm, compression ratio ETC. I have one laying around but cant find anything about it other than engine kits are available. It isnt a rebadged buda 230 gas is it?

WC and WD were 201 ci in U3109 casting with side plate - early s/n below about W76xxx - mostly casting numbers -17 and below were on raised block on aft face below head. Mid s/n thru about W195xxx (styled WC) were mostly -21 thru -28 casting siffixes. s/n on side of block behind carb. Late 201"s in WD were mostly -31 and higher suffixes with s/n prefix WD and s/n 196xxx thru about 357xxx though very early in 1948 some still were W prefix. WD45 were 226 ci and should all have block without side plate and AM casting. s/n started 45- on left side of block behind carb. get tractor s/n and I can place correct range for engine.

I have a block with no water jacket like a '45, but with a WD serial number...who knows..AC

Could be a WD/WC block in a WD45 tractor or a WD45 rear end on a WD tractor. No telling what is inside any of those blocks. WD45 had transmission with curved shifter as did a few late WDs.

Check the serial number on the block. WD/WD45 is on the left side to the rear of the carb inlet. WD starts with WD and WD45 starts with a 45. Thw3 WC serial will be on the back of the block below the head and will start with a W.

If it has a bolt on plate on the right side yep its a WD/WC block. A WD45 block will not have that plate on it.
