I painted my c last year with good paint. I thought tractor was running good at the time. After using it a little she smokes a bit. 95# on all cyliners but a little blue smoke. It also started a small oil leak in rear seal. Do I bite the bullet and overhall ? Guys can I put rear seal it with crank in place? thanks DS

My B has blown alittle blue smoke while idling for the last 2 years, and we mow alot of grass with her. Doesn't blow it while working...I have about 80lbs on each cylinder and plan to rebuild in a couple of yrs. It's not hurting anything unless she starts fowling plugs...

blue smoke is oil burn. can be rings or valve guides.--- depends on how much is uses. i have several tractors and each gets at most 100 hours per year use (some get 25). If your using a quart every 6 months, why bother? if your using a quart a day or two, i might think about it.

compression on an old motor was about 6 :1 and atmospheric pressure is about 14.7 psi (lets say 15)--- 15 x 6 = 90 psi, so your motor is in great shape, compression wise.

You can replace the rear seal without removing the crankshaft. The seal retainer bolts to the rear of the enging behind the flywheel. You will have to remove the pan. The seal can be a felt seal or a cork seal. Felt seals seem to last longer on a engine that does not see a lot of run time. If it runs a lot I dont think you will find much difference. They both work.
