My starter has started dragging. Can't crank it, sounds like one sounds when the battery is dying. Put a new Battery in it, didn't help. Does anybody have any suggestions? Can anybody suggest where I might can get another one, new or rebuilt??

check the connection where the ground ataches to the machine. this is a neglected check point and if it is not making a good con, it will drive you crazy.

Hey there Donnie;
I think you should check ALL wire connections clean them
all. If you still have dragging
maybe you should rebuild your
starter. Bob
God Bless

Check all the wire connections. I never heard that kind of a sound when the starter was draging. Sounds like a loose wire or bad battery cable. Short across the top two wires on the starter with a screw driver and see if it makes the same noise. If it starts then it will be at the switch. Could be battery cable at the starter. I would think that with the new battery that you cleaned the cable ends and that end of the cable would be good.

Dick L is right but you may want to check the other end of the negative wire connected to the battery where it is bolted to the frame somewhere. I've found some of those overseas tractors especially the european ones skip the part where they specially rinse their metal before painting and it tends to rust or corrode.
But I wouldn't rule out bad brushes in the starter motor or buildup on the commutator should be able to take it to an electric motor shop and make it better providing they can find brushes and have enough left to turn the commutator.
