Can I convert my allic C from a mag to a Farmall distributor? I know that for a farmall a,b, or c the shaft coming from the distributor housing to the mag gear is different from the connection coming from a mag, but will it fit and run? Farmall upright distributors from a farmall H or M have the same drive setup as the mag. I have looked on ebay for an allis distributor but have had little luck, but there are many farmall distributors. Any info would be appreciated.

We offer a mag to distributor conversion if interested for all AC machines with all the correct parts all rebuilt ready to go. Also offer an electronic ignition version. Drop us a line if interested...

why would you pay money to covert the mag to a distributor? if the dist was already there i might consider it, but why chage? a good mag is hard to beat.

The answer is yes. The after market distributor that is on the far left in the picture below was used on both the Farmall and Allis Chalmers to replace the magneto.

You can convert your mag to a distributor by using an auto type ignition coil and using the points in the mag. You would need to have an ignition switch and run battery voltage to the switch and to the new coil then to the points & condenser. You would disconnect the mag's coil wire at the points. You would need to disconnect the ground wire to your mag. Here's a tractor that's been converted. Hal

trust me, you will be better off with keeping the mag on. mags are self generating, (meaning they make spark with nothing else but the componets inside the mag) dist. needs battery to run it and keep spark in the engine (after your battery wears down from use, you have the chance that your engine will not run) . you'll thank me later...

A mag will give trouble in time and changing the points, condenser and coil won't cure the problem either. When that happens it's usually when the magnets lose their magnetism. I have had both in the last 50 years. We had mags on tank engines years ago and they gave good service. Some of the engines had 4 mags used in the M47 tanks.
