I'm trying to help my father in law id an old Allis Chalmers tractor. The only thing I could find that looked like a model number was c 25 d stamped on the right side of the trans? housing. It has a tricycle front end and some kind of belly attachment system that looks aftermarket or homemade. The pictures look similar to the C bit I can't be sure. Thanks for the info.

If its a C the number you need is just forward of the shifter and will start out with C. If you post a picture that helps a lot more because what you have said can fit a good number of tractors

It will be a week or so before I will be back that way. I"ll try and get one. How about a metal bucket seat pan with a shift lever of some sort coming out of the top of the right hand axle housing? Big spring under the seat and under the bottom of the rearend?

That sounds like that would be it. It is a four speed. I just googled CA and it looks to be

I am not an allis man but that lever makes it sound like the live PTO on a CA. The CA has 4 speeds forward while the C has 3 and the CA has power shift rear wheels while the C does not. For a narrow front tractor the C & CA were the only models made without a channel iron frame untill the D series that included the D10, D12, D14, D15 & D17 that are a newer style.
