just did a compression test on my wd tonight. i got 106, 103, 86, 101. i guess 100 + isnt bad but i know 86 is not good. when you watch her running you can see bubbles for the head gasket (carb side)im just wondering what else may be lurking under there. hoping for 4.5 inches of stroke, power craters and a clean bore. just betting i'll see otherwise. i guess thats the fun of (new to you) old tractors. if im unlucky in my treasure hunt....does anyone else have any of these parts laying around. also want to start looking for 170 governor spring, d17 carb and the TALL head. need a few extra ponies for the pulls. thanks fellas

WHEN PURCHASING HEAD GASKET USE FELPROS BLUE GASKET EVEN THOUGH IT DOESNT HAVE COPPER AROUND THE PUSH ROD HOLES LIKE THE VICTOR IT STILL HAS BETTER HOLDING CAPABILITY . NEVER HAD LEAK WITH FELPRO AND RUN ALOTT OF COMPRESSION. 170 GOV SPRING IS REALLY NOT ANY MORE ADV. THAN D17 SPRING USE A WC GOV. THE WEIGHTS SEAM TO BE LIGHTER. AS FOR HEADS SPEND THE MONEY ON THE SHORT HEAD THAT YOU HAVE . YOU CAN TURN A SHORT HEAD 5100 RPM A TALL HEAD THE ROCKER STANDS WILL BREAK.

Just wondering. Were the bubbles on the same cylinder that had the 86 compression? Maybe the head gasket is the only problem.
