Did they ever make an Allis Chalmers C tractor with a wide front end?

There must have been quite a few latter Bs that had the same style rear wheels as the Cs, but still had the same old B type final drives, along with a straight adjustable front axel similar, but not like C axel. I saw the first one (for me) 2 yr ago, now I'm seeing many of them. I think they might be just a bit wider than the Bs with the center nut rear wheel and hump front axel.

the B and C were the same tractor, except the C ahd 6 inch wider final drive case on each side (so a longer alxe shaft), and the C was designed as a narrow front end so it used a steering box under the radiator, whereas the B had the steering arom go directly to the left fron king pin area. you can interchange the hood, radiator, mounts, motor, gas tank, steering wheel, seat, transmission, pto, hydraulics, etc. just watch the steering gear box and the final drive cases-- they are different.

B and C were completely different tractors - B introduced in 1937/38 as wide front only with BE (116 ci) engine as 1 plow as above. RC introduced 1939/40 as 2 row with CE (125 ci) engine on modified WC chassis but discontinued in 1941. C introduced as second attempt at row crop 2 plow in 1940/41. C had wider rear axle as above and was made in NF, SF, and WF - but mostly NF configuration. B got CE engine in 1943, but never got any other C parts as far as I know. C discontinued in 1950 and replaced by CA with 4 speed, power adj wheels, 2nd clutch for PTO, etc. B continued production thru 1958.

Bob was right. the B is a 1 bottom plow tracto and the C is a 2 bottom . main difference is the C had wide final drive cases. MOST C had narrow front to set between two rows. the B were ALL wide so they could straddle 1 row. The had the same motor- trans- radiator- etc. SOME C ahd wide fronts and i think bob is right, about 5000. B mad 1938-1958. C made 1940 till about 1950 when it was replaced with the CA 4 speed tractor.

the only differance between the C and the CA were the power adjust rear wheels, 4 speed trans, had power director hand clutch. from the torqe tube forward it was still basiclly a C tractor, with the engine sped up to 1650 rpm. the CA also used wide fronts, narrow fronts and single fronts. i have a '42 C with a wide front.

if the rear brake holes are just 2 inches from the fender, and the wheels are about 5 ft outside to outside width, then it is a B final drive.--- if the rear wheels set steveral inches from the brake holes, and you have mounting bosses on the final drive cases next to them, and it is about 6 ft wide ouside to outside tires, then it is a C final drive. The C can have a wide beam front end, it would be about the same width as the rear to run in the same track. Width is probably about 65 inches front. Serial number is by the shift lever on the trans... You might have a C, and the transmission failed and a B unit was used.
