ok since the only orange tractor I have is in tha garage resting peacefully( a 46 C that has been in the family since NEW ) I went to look at a WD. Hears my questions, it starts and runs great, a little funky from old gas in the carb, kindof low oil pressure, no smoke or noises from motor. I have read about the WD with a block that has an inspection cover in it ? I looked and couldn`t fine one, the block # is WD 21XXX but it started with 21, am I missing something ? By the serial number it should be a 1950 model, it has a four bolt narrow front end, tin work is amazing to say the least, one dent in the tank that is small, the hand clutch snaps back nicely but it seems to have alot of slop in the linkage. it has a 3 point conversion of some sort, new bigger back tires and new fronts. does anyone know of anything I mite have missed looking at besides the jumping out of gear things, oh and the back tires that are on it are diff rims made to fit a set of centers, the orignal power adjust rims and centers also come with it, one looks like it needs a little repair around a valve stem hole, nothing too bad I guess what i`m trying to get at is he is asking 800 for this tractor do you guys think it is too much, I think I need another orange tractor to surround my blue one LOL thanks

The number on the block is not the serial number. The serial number is located on the rear end. WC and WD blocks do have a removable plate. No telling by now what internal parts are in any particular block. The transmission check is very important as fixing a bad one can cost as much or more than the whole tractor cost. It is also important to know you have good brakes before you head down a big hill to check the transmission. Bad things can happen when you reach the bottom if she jumps out of gear and you have no brakes.

If it is in fact a WD it will have a bolt on plate on the right hand side of the engine, but a WD45 eigine will bolt right in and it doesn't have that plate. $800 in my area is for a tractor that runs but thats about it. I have seen them go for $2500

The 201 cubic inch engine on the WC and WD has a cover on the right side, the WD45 does not. Rear wheels and rims? WD was the first tractor (not just AC, but among all others) that had the Power-Shift rear wheels. Others called them power adjustable or spin outs, JD even claimed they were 'exclusive' to JD in the late 50s in their ads. Repair around the valve stem hole is simple- results from CaCl corrosion, because someone did not fix the hole in the tube. Many badmouth CaCl as a weight additive- but all you need to do is fix the tube leak at the start.
