HI 1st time on a message board,I am in need of help with so ideas on slowing down the ground speed of my allis wc for a corn picker I know IH had a different gear you could put in the trans but is there anything I can do for my wc thanx

Only 5500 RC models made between 1939-1941- they had a different rear axle gear ratio. But why destroy a good tractor to get those gears? Pullers already did that! Sherman gearbox is spendy- 4,5,600 bucks. Bought a WW2 WC last year with the Sherman box for $550--,not about to part with it.

You cant drop a coupel tire sizes can you maby get another set of wheels to put on just for piking corn

No slow gears that I am aware of other than an RC ring and pinion and I dont think that will do what you need as they are not slow enough and they are usualy pricey (RC is low production tractor)I think you need a Sherman underdrive, kinda pricey. Last I knew they were fetching over $500. Another option might be an aftermarket live PTO clutch. They can be slipped to let things clean out or in tough areas but you wouldnt want to slip it all day. I just purchased one to install on our 38 for the combine.

THANX for all the suggestions I just bought a RC thatIwill take the gears out of if that does not work I have started working on a planetary reduction box that I KNOW WILL WORK the old shermen gear boxes are cool but over priced and parts are hard to get I have also thought about a 3 speed aux trans out of an old dump truck but I think thay use to much HP but thay will fit.thanx again. TODD
