I ran the D17 (not quite agile as the Super C) into a tree. The left front wheel took the hit and is now cocked back at a quite different angle than its left-hand counterpart. I have assumed by looking things over that the only damage I"ve done is shearing the spindle key off. I removed the removed the snap ring off the top of the spindle and expected the spindle just to drop out of the spindle arm and spindle support but it did not. I tapped the top of it with a hammer but no budge. I don"t want to get heavy-handed here until I"m sure of what I"m doing. Shouldn"t everything just slide out of there - the bushings, the thrust washers - all along with the spindle? Thanks CliffordPaul

I suppose there isn't room to get a gear puller under the spindle arm, huh? Yhat might work it loose by tapping the arm as you tighten the puller.

Get a large rosebud torch and heat arm around shaft until red hot drench with cold water while red hot and put a puller or tap off. Should come off easily. When reinstalling heat red hot again and drop it in place and allow to cool on its own. That will insure that it shrinks tight to shaft and won't come loose.

The arm MUST come off the spindle before you can remmove the spindle from the housing.
The key that aligns the arm to the spindle is a half-moon and stays with the spindle until the arm is off.
The I&T manual I have doesn't explain it, but here's a picture...

A lot of heat, penetrating oil and a big jaw puller if you don't have access to a press. Don't hit the top of the shaft. If you swell it even a little bit you may never get it off. Heat it and hit around the outside of the arm with a small sledge. You may have to repeat this process several times.

I broke the spindle on mine and had to use some major heat and a 40 ton press to get the arm off.
