I got myself a saginaw 3pt hitch yesterday for my Wd. I know my hydraulic resivour is low. One thing i noticed is that in order for me to pick up the brush hog up I would haft to put the hydraulic lever almost all the way up before it would lift.It seems to me if i have the brush hog all the way down and i push the hydraulic lever up just a little bit that the brush hog would raise just a little bit but it dont. I was wondering if all the wd hydraulics were like this or if my needs to be flushed and new hydraulic fluid put in and maybe some of the linkage is out of adjustment?

There are two settings for this system. You want lift and hold. You raise the lever possibly two thirds or more of the way up until implement is at the correct height. Then you pull down the lever until it stops lifting (usually somewhere around the middle). It will stay at this level if the seals on your cylinder and your valves are in good shape. To lower it, you lower the lever a little and you should feel the valve open to let it down. When you are at the new correct height, you return the lever to somewhere around the middle until it stops lowering. The decal on the battery explains the setup as does the Allis operating manual or the IT manual. You need both manuals.

The link shows how to set up your pump/valve for the Hold function. In addition I think that screw "C" should be most of the way out.
The Hold function will only work if your hydraulic cylinders don't leak. Even then, the wear inside the valve can allow internal leakage & loss of control.
If your reservoir is down, you can also be losing oil through the front &/or rear seals of the hydraulic oil reservoir. This won't affect the operation of the pump or valve, as long as you keep topping the oil up. One way leaks onto the ground through the engine clutch housing; the other way leaks back into the transmission clutch housing.
My WD reacts pretty close to the way you describe. But the Hold function does work since I replaced the packing in the hydraulic cylinders and set the pump up.
