My husband has purchased a tractor that is supposed to be a Allis Chalmers. This tractor does not have a name on it as it may have been repainted. These are all of the numbers he has found for reference:
203284,204845,j121,cf155704ga,and AM2787-20.Could someone please help to identify the year and model?
Thank you.

Motor CE155704GA is vintage 1951 - could be either a B or a CA tractor - CA would probably have power shift rear wheels and would have a platform with pan seat and would have PTO control lever on right of driver position. CA would be 4 speed and could be WF, NF, or SF. B would be 3 speed and have wide front only and would have bench seat and no operator platform. Tractor ID should be steel stamped into spot by base of shift lever.

I think Steve is right about the engine and it can't be a CA because the 203284 (transmission case) and 204845 (pto case) can only be on a B or C.

The AM2787-20 is suspiciously close to the final drive housing casting codes for the B, Right casting is 2787-18, and 2787-19 for the left. The casting where you found that number may tell you whether B or C. If the distance from "fender" (wheel guard) mount to the outside edge of that casting is more than 6 inches, you have a C, if about 6 inches it's a B.
The best way is to look at the flat (looks machined) surface at the leading edge of the transmission case (in front of the shifter) and try to make out the numbers in there. It will tell you C or B and then you can look up the number portion for the year in the column on the left of this page.

There are numerous other differences in the C and B. A quick one is if the radiator support is cast or if it's made of heavy sheet metal. The cast model on the C also will have the steering arm coming out of it, follow the link hooked to that arm back to the steering box just under the tank. If the arm goes upward from the steering shaft, it's a C, downward, it's a B.

If you look at the front tie rods and they connect at the center or if it's a tri-cycle front end, it's a C.

The good news on the year is a lot of parts from most all of the years are interchangable on both B and C and even between B and C. The C is a wider stance version of basically same tractor. Either will be great for gardening and small chores.

Thank you all so much for the info. We have located the numbers in front of the shifter (B117439). I looked on the chart for serial numbers. Am I correct in assuming that this is a 1950 model?Radiator support is sheet metal and steering rods connect on right hand side.Tractor does have 24 inch tires on back and no frame on the side.
Thank you.

my chart indicates that it is a 1951.
last # produced in 50 is 114526 and last # produced in 51 is 118673.
nice little tractor that will work harder than you can believe possible.
losts of luck with it. Bob

the smaller tractors, B,C,CA have 24 inch tires on the back, and no frame on the side. the motor is bolted to a toque tube and that to the transmission.. the serial number is by the trans shift lever..... ..... the larger tractors WC,WD,WD45 normally have 28 inch tires. they have a c-channel frame down each side of the motor and in front of the radiator. they can be narrow or wide front axle. the serial unber is by the rear axle, left brake cover----- all those tracotors are 1935-1955 models. If it is a newer D- series, the serial number os no the left side of the clutc housing just behind the motor. These are 1958-1965 model tractors.
