My Dad has a C I have used for years and now I want my own. I found this Model CA locally and was wondering if there was any known problems that I should look for. The tractor does not run currently but the owner swears it runs great. I went and looked at it and everything looks good except a very dead battery and fouled plugs. Looks like the choke linkage rattled out and the choke worked itself closed. I have new plugs and a fresh battery and am going out tomorow to see if it runs or not. It comes with the mower deck pictured, a plow and some spare parts. What do you think of this?

nice looking tractor. the only problems that might exist are the hand clutch on the right side rear axle- make sure it holds going up hill, and cutting grass. if it slips, it requires taking the right alxe housing off to repair or eliminate---- ssecond problem is does the trans jump out of 2 or 3re gear. if not, most other problems are minor.

What would be the best way to check if the hand clutch slips? Bog it uphill? Thanks.

pull a hill with the mower engaged. on the flat, you can use a disc or plow, but you dont have that option now.

Check out the hand clutch if it has one. I've heard that they are expensive to repair

I paid 2000.00 for this one with the woods deck and a one bottom plow. This one also has new tires and a pretty fresh tune up. Only thing that is disapointing is that someone took the origional drawbar off and replaced it with some homemade parts. All in all a great little tractor.

I had a '56 CA back in the early 80's. Good old tractor. I replaced the hand clutch and the main clutch and brake linings. I don't recall any of these being horrendous jobs. Never had mine to jump out of gear...although I read folks mentioning it from time to time.

I bought it from the original owner and he had farmed about 40 acres of hillside with it. Somebody had already bought the sicklebar mower, but I got the 2-14" plows and disc harrow. That was the stoutest little tractor I ever ran. Later, I inherited a '59 JD 430. I had already sold the Allis, but I am sure the Allis would have dragged the Deere backwards!

Went and worked on it today. It is in need of an oil change and the hydraulics do not work. There was a big chunk of rust in the carb blocking the jet. Fixed that and it fired right up and ran great. Clutch seemed good PTO works good. Drives excellent. Can't wait to get it home.

Is there any common problems with the hydro pump? I wouldn't mind fixing that someday.

to engage the hydraulic pump you must push in the clutch and pull up on the lever below the seat on the right. this will engage the pto and the pump when the clutch is released. Bob
