My left brake is fine, but my right brake needs to be tightened. How should I do it?It looks like one of the holes on the axel is ment for that.Do I do it like a car?Turn the wheel one way until it's tighter?Just how tight is good?

There's a screw or bolt head that's adjusted from the top. One of the easiest ways to adjust is determined by when the parking brake cam holds the tractor in place. The adjuctment screw in Dick's diagram. There's usually also an inspection plate that comes off with a couple of bolts...if you use a mag lite, sometimes you can tells from there if the bands still have some liner on them.

Accordingly to what has happened over the years you could adjust your brakes with a screw diver or a open wrench. The adjustment will be done thru where the brake lever comes out of the top.
You tighten the adjustment until you have brakes when pushing on the pedal or pulling the hand lever back. I adjust mine in the seat with the tractor running with it in gear so I can tell how much to tighten the screw. I have removed all of my brake bands with the threaded stud.
