I recently bought an AC 7060 and looking through the operators manual it says DO NOT USE MULTI-VISCOSITY LUBRICATING OILS IN ALLIS CHALMERS DIESEL ENGINES. I also have a CASE 450 crawler and a 671 detroit in an IH. truck, I use straight 30# in the CASE and the truck, but everyone seems to be going to 15/40# oil and most bulk suppliers don"t cary anything else. Is this just the new thinking or is the new oils actually a lot better now than when these engines were designed? The temps. are never down lower than 32*F. What do you all think???

In my 8v92 I use delo 100 40w it made for those 2 cycle engines. In the 190xt and 8050 I use delo 400 15w-40. We have been using delo products since 1962 and they have worked out real well.

It seems like about once a week we see the question of what oil is best. I think the answer to that is if you have been using brand X for twenty years and have no trouble why would you want to change just because someone else says brand Y is better. Ifyou have newer equipment most use 15/40 by the books. If you have old timers like me I use 10/30 in everything I have except my old 900B and that is straight 30--don't use it in the winter.

Thanks ALL for the comments, I know the 15/40 would circulate a lot faster when started, I was hoping for one oil for all machines, and my guess is these new oils are a lot better today. My 7060 is a RED FRAME not sure what that means, but I will give this OIL some more thought. Phil H

Two stroke Detroits spec 40W oil no matter the temp. 30 W as a second choice. NO Multi-viscocity's. The book prefers the use of 40W oil and heat the engine for cold weather starting.

I dont know why A-C doesnt want you to use multi-viscosity oil, but if my supplier wont get what I need I'd get a new supplier! That being said, I should note that Im in an area with dozens of petroleum distributors, you may not be so lucky.

We always ran 15w40 with no problems. Is your tractor a red or black frame

It would not hurt the engine to use 15W40 in summer and 10w30 in winter. Use it in all my engines from lawn mowers to my Oliver 1955 never have problems.
