Have a couple of questions fer ya,the rear wheels on my 39B rock in and out when I grab the top and push and pull,is this normal or should they be tight on the shafts? The steering gear box has a lot of play, can I adjust some play out in the gear box. Also I have early and late front hubs, someone drilled a Volkswagon rim to go on the late rim.Does anyone have a hub and rim assembly they migh want to sell.I know I need a manual but the funds aren't there rigfht now

I have a 49 B that also got loose in the rear. It comes from bad bearings and shims from water not draining through the holes. Mouse nests & that sort of thing will block them up, or nut casings. Anyhow I had to replace the bearings and shims, the shims will need to be made (not that difficult) but a real shop manual helps. M

Thanks Dick,I had an idea they were supposed to be tight,I also figured the steering needed work but one can always hope.I was reading back in the forum and saw the pics of your bumper, nice looking B you got.The one I just got came with the sycle mower that bolts on ungerneath and the bar is centered out the tractor side. She runs great since you guys told me about the mag problems, thanks fer that.I gave 500.00 for the two peices so I can afford to put a little money into it if I have to.I'm sure I'll be asking for more help on things as I get it farther apart to paint it and find more things wrong so you guys hang around I can use the help. Thanks again

This is probly what your steering parts look like. (Probly) Couldn't be sure until opened up.

As you probly really know the wheels are not supposed to be loose. If the nut is tight in the center of the hub you need to pull the wheel off and take a look at the splines. If you have any still good and the nut was tight some can be ground off the back of th ehub to allow it to get tight on the tapered splines.
The pall is most likely wore bad in your steering. I have one apart on the bench now that I am going to drill and replace the pall/tapered button the rides in the worm gear.
