I just started working on this tractor. My grandfather used to farm with it many years ago and it was sold when it became to small for his use. After a few other owners it is now in my care. The motor is stuck but is not to bad, I should have it going shortly. There appears to be some sort of clutch problem which is why it was left sit since the late 60's. From what I can tell the input shaft of the trans is turning but the clutch disc is not. I need to split the tractor to find out for sure what is going on. I am trying to locate a clutch disc and maybe a preasure plate. Anyone know where I can get one? Or do you rebuild these and where? Also I have heard talk of tire size. This has the small rear spoke wheels, I believe 24?? What other size did they have for the row crop? I would like to do some pulling with this tractor and am guessing the bigger tires would help if I could find them. Also did they have a 4 speed trans on these tractors or just a 3? I thought for sure the one I other one I looked at had a 4 speed. If so what was the difference in ratios?

The UC's that came from the factory on steel wheels were 3 speeds. If they were on rubber from the factory, they were 4 speeds. If they are like the U tractors, 4th gear is there on a three speed. You just have to engage the fourth gear shifting fork inside the transmission to get it. As far as ratios, the are the same as they are the very same transmissions. The 4th speed is a "road gear". The later UC's, after mid 1936, came from the factory with 28 inch wheels for rubber tires. These are the round spoke wheels. Cutdown steel wheels, with flat spokes, could be whatever size rim was welded on to them. Most cutdowns I have seen are 28 inch. Although, I seen 24 and 26 inch sizes. You also need to be aware that the early UC's used a Continental Flathead engine, while the later ones used an overhead valve engine called a "UM" engine. That may be an issue on finding clutch parts. The change was done with the introduction of the 1933 tractors, as I recall. The UC tractor model was introduced in 1931. This is from memory. If you need more specifics, I can look these things up for you.

I found out that the 4th gear is actually there but not labled on the shift plate like a newer UC that I looked at. This tractor has factory round spoke wheels with rubber tires. Rears are 24s. The motor is a overhead valve engine, the AC motor from what I have been told. I keep learning more everyday!

Do you have a picture? I've only seen one UC before.
