Our farm has 2 brands of tractors, allis and farmall. the farmall 806 requires hy-trans oil. just wondering if it is ok to run hy-trans oil in d17 first series and 170 gas tractors as well. just dont want to mix fluids if they r not compatible or tear up pumps and bearings.

sky is right, the hydraulic fluid used for the IH is o.k. for the AC tractors. If you do put hytrans in the trnasmissions, make sure you get as much of the gear lube out first. not a good idea to mix gear lube and hy- trans. it is o.k. to pour the hytrnas in you present D17 hydraulic fluid and mix.

thanks. i was also wondering about mixing oils and the possibility of foaming and cavitating the hydraulics.

Bob - perfectly fine/recommended to run universal trans/hydraulic fluid in the both the power director and hydraulic compartments of your Series I D17 and the combined PD/hydraulic comparment of your 170. Look for the 821XL spec along with the appropriate IH spec when picking out the fluid to run in both. You can also run trans/hydraulic in the transmission/diff. case on both AC's, IF and this is my opinion, you don't do real heavy work like tillage with the tractors. If you do work them hard, I'd stick with 80/90 EP GL-5 gear lube in the trans/diff. I run trans/hydraulic in the PD/Hydraulic case of both my Series IV D17 and my One-Eighty with gear lube in both for the trans/rear diff. Mike
