A neighbor has a D17 that the lift arms won't stay up on and he thinks it may be the cylinder which he thinks is inside the tractor. I'm a JD man, but was wondering what I would get into if I was to work on it instead of him sending it to a dealer. I will get the books if I work on it, but he is wanting an answer this week. Any suggestions?

Find out if it transfers oil from the hydraulics compartment to the differential compartment. If it does then it's the cylinder or hose in the rear end. Not to bad to get to.

snap coupler is a 3pt system, 1 draft hitch under the tractor, 2 pts lifting on the lift arms. probably a stuck check, or a maladjusted or defunct linkage on the draft control. should be easy to diagnose with the it manual.
