I think I have most of the bugs out of this '49 C. It hasn't been seeing much work because it has been to dry to grow grass. I think I finally got the needle and seat to stop leakin' when it is shut off. I always turn off the gas when I put it away. It mows good with the 5ft deck and has plenty of power. Good governor response. My question is this. It does burn some oil. It is not noticed when working, only at idle and when the throttle is opened. The blue smoke shows itself. I don't think engine work is needed, but I plan to change the oil soon and was wondering if it would pay to put some sort of additive in the oil to maybe help the rings or valves. The oil pressure gauge reads at half scale. It doesn't matter if hot, cold, at idle, or open throttle. I know that you have C's and thought you might know of something worthwhile to try. I plan to drop the front end this winter and see if I can get some play out of the steering.
Neighbor farmers used Allis tractors when I was growing up, but I never spent much time with them. This is my first one. It is beginning to look like a rainbow around here with all the colors.

You might try this. Put about 1/2 cup of tranny fluid in each cylinder and let it sit a day or so. Then with the plugs out spin it over to clear the cylinders. Also put about a QT. of tanny fluid in 5 gal. of gas and run it. Do those two things will help loosen up any stuck parts like rings and valves and also clean out carbon that could be causeing you the problem. And you could also go to a heavier weight oil like if your running 10W30 go to a 20W-50 or if your running stright weight say a 30W go to a 40W. My self I never use the muti weight oils

I was goin to 30 wt when I changed it. From reading your posts, I know you are a believer in tranny fluid. I will give it a try. thanks

Yep I keep tranny fluid on hand all the time. Years ago I used MMO but then found that tranny fluid worked as well as MMO and cost about 1/3 so I switched to it. I have one engine here on a cletrac HG that had 60 PSI when I did a compression check and then after filling the cylinders with tranny fluid I now have over 100 PSI in all cylinders so I know it works and its cheap
