I mounted a alternator on my WD but the radiator cover hits the alternator. Is there a special bracket to use or something? I used the shortest belt I could find & there is hardly any clearence between the alternator & the throttle linkage to move the alternator closer to the motor for clearence & it still might hit the radiator cover. The bracket I made is centered on the frame rail. Should it be off set towards the motor?

Well uhhh... When we converted mine, we just mounted the alternator to the generator bracket. Used some all thread, bolted it in place, then moved the generator bracket forward about 3 inches and drilled new holes in the frame, and all is well. I wasn't gung-ho to drill holes in the frame, but this is a permanent change, so I finally decided it was the best way to go. I think I used one thick washer to shim up the alternator just a bit.

Some guys cut the curved section of the shell off and that lets the alternator swing out to the left more; it also makes a sloppy looking tractor. I installed shims between the mount bracket and frame rail to raise the alternator enough to allow some outward adjustment without hitting the shell.

You can use a Hitachi alternator from NAPA that's smaller in size. Their part number is 2138130.
Cost about $50.00. Hal
