44 model c, restoring from a basket of parts. manifold and carb are missing. is there an easy way to determine if this is a gas or distillate tractor. the engine was in parted condition when I got it. thanks.

Probly not a dual fuel engine. The dual fuel engines that I have taken apart were all B's they had the pistons with a crater in the top or the piston did not come all the way to the top of the block on top dead center. My one book says to use two head gaskets for dual fuel when the pistons are at the top of the block on TDC.

during and after WW11 distllate was not a popular fuel. Diesel was coming of age on the Farm Tractor Scene so "My Guess" is the Tractor was a OEM Gasoline burner,Leaded at that.

Distillate tractors had a small starting fuel tank mounted under the left side of the hood. Most of the time the tank is now gone but there will be four extra holes in the hood where it over to vertical. One about 2" and three 3/8"
