D-17 Fuel tank

Hello all, I am rebuilding the carb on my D-17. I wanted to replace the sediment bowl due to a leaky shut off. i can"t remove it without removing the fuel tank "It hits on the tank when I try to un thread it". I removed the tank strap,the steering column tank bkt and the center fuel tank strap. is there anything else that needs removed or is this thinh stuck down with some sort of adhesive? It won"t budge! Thanks for any inpu. Troy

A neighbor had one where he could shut off the fuel from his seat on his wd45. It had a handle similar to the one on the shut off. A long thin rod connected the two and it had a similar handle on the other end that fitted over the handle on the original sediment bowl.

Aren't there 2 studs down underneath that fasten the tank to the long metal frame? (The one that supports the batteries too)

Seems like they were 5/16- or 3/8-24 fine thread

They're on the D17Siv, but not sure about earlier series

Thanks, I found the two extra bolts! They were grease and dust covered if you can imagine. Ha,ha. I cleaned the tank,installed the new sediment bowl,carb and fuel line. Runs great but while mowing CRP I ripped a big hole in a rim! "Fluid in the tires rotted out my valve stem area. Where is a good place to buy new 14-28 rims? I can't find any.

I took my sediment bowl assembly off my D-17 with out takeing the tank off. Its tight and the shut off has to be closed all the way and the brass adaptor for the pipe has to be off of it also. BTDT and it can be done but its hard to do

The old farmer who owned my tractor before me made a homemade shut-off by brazing a longer piece of bolt to the shut off. He never spent a dime on this thing.....just cobbled things together to get them to work. He even cut the top hood so he could use and old car muffler instead of buying an original OEM. I will try bending it and remove the brass fitting. Thanks for the tip!

Sounds like you got all the right bolts out to remove the tank. My D17 took a little prying and then came out after removing all the bolts you mentioned.
As far as the assembly goes, I just picked up a brand new assembly with sediment bowl (I had the same leaking issue) for about $25.00 CN$
