I have a 1948 allis chalmers on which the tool bar is a 2" steel tube. All the model G's I have ever seen have a 1 1/4" steel square bar.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

The serial number is G7199 I'm not sure how the serial numbers evolved from single digits to larger numbers.

If serial numbers increased by single digits then this tractor would have been completed in the later part of 1948.

You know it is always a possibility someone added to the tractor. But it seems to me all the evidence points towards the bar being original. The age of the paint on the bar even matches the rest of the tractor. If it is not original it was a great job of adaptation.

I agreee with Joe. The fact that you have equipment that fits this 2" bar and the 2" bar itself.. tells me someone had the bar and made their implements fit it.. etc..

I thought it wasn"t OEM at first. But all of the implements I have and the front arm, the block clamps, the plow clamp and everything is fitted for the 2" bar. I was thinking it was an early model before they went to the 1 1/4" support bar but I just have no data on it.

I think it was more just somebody getting by with what they had vs spending money. I don't believe AC would have ever used a hollow tube for this purpose. JMHO
