Allis 2 bottom Plow question

I just picked-up a Allis 2-14 trail plow. The coulters are real loose in the mountings. I understand there are cone? bearings in there and there are 2 grease caps on each side of the coulter. Any idea where I could get parts to rebuild the coulters?

I dont recall Allis using the cone type bearings, Oliver or JD coulters had them and maybe others? If so equipped a trip to the local Auto store would only be good for entertainment of the counter woman or yourself. They are not cone type as in Timkin tapered roller but as in cone shaped pieces of solid cast iron. They adjust like tapered rollers but simply slide in grease. To adjust depends on the coulter type. Some have one nut which is a jam nut. The bolt is threaded into the fork, righty tighty lefty loosey. Oliver has two nuts (fork is not threaded) and adjusts same except for the inner nut adjusts. If the coulters are Allis they likely do not have the cones and instead have a sleeve that is a little longer than the hub. The folk is supposed to be clamped tight on the sleeve thus leaving the hub free to turn. Either type you will run into worn out bolts from running loose that cause much slop And probably find that nothing was over greased and packed with dirt. I take them all apart, fix what is shot(lathes are handy) and have never bothered my dealer about parts that are more than likely not availible or stupid priced if so.

You should be able to get replacement bearings at most auto parts stores. I would take the old bearings along, but the numbers from the old ones is probably good enough. Hal
