WD electrical system

I am a new owner of a '50 WD. the previous owner tryed to convert it to 12V. THe ammeter appears to work but does not show it to charge. The battery goes dead pretty fast. I have to check yet to see if I have a 12V coil, but I don't see any resistor in line with coil so I am assuming it is 12V to points. I have a GM one-wire alt. and some kind of solinoid down by alt. wired to the one wire going to the alt. Can some of you great people that done a conversion like this give me some pointers on rewiring this system so it will work correctly. I am really glad to have such a good tractor as a WD.

Have been running a 12 volt conversion on a WD with a GM Alternator since 1972 with the ORIGINAL 6 volt coil and a Ford running resistor ( from a 1958 Ford six cly pick up). Works great, great spark, runs fine.
