If my memory serves me correct I was told about 10 years ago by a dealer or someone that the newer hydraulic oils would work in the power director and the tranny now taking the place of the ep 80 weight gear oil. But it has been so long that i cant remember for sure. so now that i am starting into farming again i wanted to make sure. could anyone know off the top of their head? I thought about calling a dealer but i figured this way everybody could benefit. Thanks in advance!=)

Yes, you sure can run universal trans/hydraulic fluid in both the power director and transmission/differential case if it is good stuff. Look for the AGCO 821XL spec. If you have an older Series I or II, you can also run that in the hydraulics case too as it's separate.

In my opinion though, and others may have different opinions, if you work your D17 hard such as for a significant amount of field tillage (plowing, discing, etc.), I'd still run 80/90 EP GL-5 gear lube in the trans/diff case. That's what I do in my D17. Mike
