I just put all new wires, lights, switches, and cutout relay on my WD. Started it up, what do you know, the lights don"t work and it shows a slight discharge on the ammeter. Could these problems be related? I just learned about "repolarizing" the generator which I did not do either; did I ruin the new cutout? I checked the schematic that came with the wiring harness and everything is correct, and the generator has been tested. Any ideas?

If you are using the 3 position switch in the original WD instrument box, be sure that the box is grounded. Also make sure the gen has a good ground to frame. Make sure the lights are grounded good where they go into the tractor as well. Bad grounds can cause all kinds of problems. If generator is good you should be able to run a wire from the field terminal to ground and see if it charges then. If cutout points are not closing when running, close them by hand and see if it charges. If it does, the points may be bad. Again, check your grounding closely

Another note, the battery goes dead in about 3 days, although it starts and runs fine otherwise if you stick the charger on for about an hour.
