Hello;

I read many coments in the forum and need to ask a question. I still have my oil turning black after about twenty hours of running. This is after I used gunk to wash out the engine a few times to boot. I noticed that you can buy a adjustable needle that goes in the bottom of the carb on this zenith carb. Would this help to lean doen the mixture so that I can get past this problem?

Hey Dave, I just found a carb like yours out in my dad's shop. My bad! it too has a plug instead of a needle. Good luck!

I would be interested in the color of the spark plugs.Do we know for a fact that you have a rich condition? Until I took out the plugs and saw black soot, I would't mess with the mixture.

David, I believe that the Zenith carb in question already has an adjustable needle to adust mixture with.Run the engine at full governed R.P.M. and turn the mixture adjustment in until the engine starts to sputter. Then back it out until it smoothes out. (about an eigth to a quater turn)

Hey Eddie:

I got no needle on the carb. It has a fixed plug in the bottom of the fuel bowl.

I believe I got the thing figured out.

Even a brand new engine will turn the oil a dark color after 20 hours or so. I don't see that you have a problem other then in your own mind. So in other words unless its not running right or has a knock run it since I don't see that you have a porblem. Just run it but do change the oil a couple times a year
