will the shift tower [trans.top] off a WD fit on WD-45 ???...the snap ring groove that holds in shift lever is worn so bad that it won't hold lever in place...thought about spot welding upper washer in place of snap ring...or maybe find a replacement but WD-45 are hard to find down here....thanks ...Kent

My WD shift tower was worn pretty bad, I even got it stuck in reverse twice. Ended up adding a washer in with the snap ring for some extra pressure and ended up drilling out a bigger hole for the pin that goes in the tower and then building it up with weld so that it would fit better in the hole. I also ended up cutting the shifter in half, so now it has a straight shifter, even though it was crooked before. As long as I am careful about going into reverse, it works perfectly, albeit the clutch is a bit worn.

Towers are interchangeable. The WD45 has two guide pins in the tower, the WD has one. Lay the tower in the drill press and drill through the existing hole, through the other side, to make the hole for the second pin.

thanks for reply ..my service manual only shows one pin & my shifter [curved] has only one groove in it ...do I need two ???1956 WD-45...Kent
