Hello;

I have the same problem with black oil on my B and the best I can figure is that it is being cleaned out with the detergent oil I use. Weh I had the pan off, the strainer was pretty clema and the walls of the crankcase were dirty, so I scrubbed the walls, getting them as clean as I can. Still getting that darned black oil. Compression is pretty even at 120 and vacuum is 17-18 and pretty steady.
Any ideas

Cleaning an engine with oil changes and filters takes a long time. If has years of build up it will never look clean after running a few hours. It will be fine but just look crappy. If you ever overhaul the engine the block needs to be hot tanked or the baking process. Baking is the best if you can find a shop with the equipment. Wear sun glasses when you check your oil and it wont bother you as much.

It may take a few oil changes to clear that up, but its also normal for oil to slowly turn black over say 40 hours of run time and will happen in just about any engine.
